Don’t miss Boom : Art & Design in the 1940’s at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, up through Sept 1.
‘The 1940s witnessed major shifts in politics, science, economics, industry, the arts, and culture, which coincided with a time of scarcity, limitation, and the catastrophic global conflict of World War II.
Throughout this tumultuous period, artists brought new ideas to their work across media, from fashion and textiles, craft and design, to printmaking, drawing, photography, painting, and sculpture. Boom: Art and Design in the 1940s will be a testament to the creative spirit that flourished despite the restrictions and adversity of the era.
This exhibition will showcase art from across the decade, featuring works drawn entirely from the museum’s permanent collections.’
@philamuseum congratulations on a great show!
Repost from @negozioolivetti On the occasion of Carlo Scarpa’s upcoming birthday anniversary (June 2, 1906), let us step together into the Negozio Olivetti, Venice (1957–58).
Awarded the Olivetti architecture prize in 1956 by Adriano Olivetti, Carlo Scarpa was soon entrusted with transforming a volume within the Procuratie Vecchie into a space of rare elegance, facing the arcades of Piazza San Marco.
What followed was a masterclass in spatial choreography: a suspended mezzanine, held by paired iron rods; Aurisina marble that plays with shadow and light; mezzanine ceilings clad in teak wood, and fine brass and bronze details — meticulously crafted by Scarpa’s trusted artisans.
And then, near the entrance, the quiet glint of water — eternal Venetian signature.
Today, we’re pleased to share a special glimpse of this masterpiece through the lens of @duncangibbs, whose eye captures the poetics of Scarpa’s architecture. We warmly invite you to visit 📍 FAI Negozio Olivetti — to observe, or to draw. Let the space speak to you, as it always does to those who pause long enough to listen.

I love cars. People ask me why—what’s the big deal? Maybe it’s a California thing. Or maybe it’s deeper. Cars are cultural objects. They move us—literally and emotionally. They’re mobile architecture, mirrors of identity, memory, status, and desire. They carry a brand’s soul, the engineering beneath, and the history behind them.
Since I was a kid, I’ve sketched cars—shapes, silhouettes, ideas. Lately, I’ve been exploring more complete concepts. These aren’t commissions or brand-sanctioned. They’re creative exercises. Reimaginings. A way to riff on a design language and ask *what if*?
So I’m starting something new here on @mattmurphydesign: semi-regular posts of automotive design—experiments, homages, provocations. MMD’s tagline is *Ideas + Action*—and these are exactly that. Hope you enjoy the ride.

While in Paris recently, designing the *Snoopy in Style* exhibition, I kept spotting one of my favorite unicorns: the @astonmartin Cygnet (2011–2014). A curious creature born of necessity. To meet EU emissions rules, Aston needed something efficient in their fleet. Enter the Cygnet: a reworked Toyota iQ with Aston touches and a luxury interior. It retailed for ~$51K (vs ~$22K for the iQ), and fewer than 800 were made. Today, they’re rare and cultishly loved. A V8-swapped Cygnet is expected to sell for nearly $600K.
Which got me thinking—what if there were a Cygnet II?
What I’ve designed imagines just that. A bit longer—Mini-sized—wider and taller to fit real-life gear (yes, even a bike). A twin-turbo inline-4. Bigger wheels. And a cabin worthy of the badge. The lines draw from the elegant aggression of the new DB12.
This isn’t a prototype. Just a sketch. But it’s a love letter to a brilliant oddball—and the kind of everyday Aston I wish existed.

In the 1930s, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s hillside villa on the French Riviera was a magnet for creators like painter Salvador Dalí, filmmaker Luchino Visconti and writer Colette.
After a multiyear restoration, @chanelofficial is reopening the villa next month with the aim of hosting artists once again.
Architect Peter Marino, who has collaborated with the French luxury brand for more than three decades, pored over hundreds of archival photographs to recreate the original interiors of La Pausa, the legendary designer’s home — complete with a mirrored bathroom that echoes the Art Deco staircase of her couture salon in Paris.

Love the ceiling of the Rye Town Park bathing complex at Oakland Park, c.1909 - about an hour from NYC. My inner-Californian loves this interpretative Mission-Revival architecture, and especially the covered arcade, columns, and its exposed structure.

Snoopy in Style drew over 23,000 visitors in just two weeks—proof that the joy of Snoopy and the Peanuts gang is timeless. When icons like Gucci, Chanel, Hermès, Valentino, and 75 visionary designers come together, magic happens.
We were honored to design this exhibition and bring it to life. Watch the recap, see the highlights, and feel the joy—link in bio.

Timewarp to the Snoopy in Fashion Show at Bryant Park, 2007. Matt designed a look interpreting Linus, the Peanuts character, which included a custom Multibag with a ‘Linus blanket strap’, in supple blue Italian lambskin, with a printed silver metallic T-shirt echoing Linus’ banded shirt. 24 designers & celebs showed looks including Jeremy Scott, Whoopi Goldberg, Heatherette, Betsey Johnson, Cannon, Jason Wu, Isaac Mizrahi, and others, all benefitting Dress for Success, sponsored by MetLife. 😍⠀

Snoopy is turning 75 this year 🎂.
Since our favorite cartoon beagle has been dressed by fashion giants since 1982, it was only natural to celebrate this milestone in style. To mark the occasion, @snoopygrams chose Paris, to showcase a retrospective on Charles Schulz’ life & the Peanuts’ characters.
Set up in a beautiful hotel particulier in the Marais, @mattmurphynyc created an immersive space, blending colors and lithography-inspired elements for a striking graphic effect.
The @schulzmuseum teamed up with Sarah, who added her magic touch to bring together some of the biggest names in fashion to create exclusive outfits for the event, including Chanel, Valentino, Hermès, and the French “pirate” himself @jcdecastelbajac 🏴☠️.
You can also visit the carefully curated gift shop with a selection of exclusive items brought from around the world & the Starbucks terrace with a Joe Kind Snoopy Frappuccino 🐾.
A heart warming animation for the young and the young at heart ❤️.

This is f*cking great. For Snoopy’s 75th anniversary, they reached out to designers such as KidSuper, 3 Paradis, ERL, etc., to re-imagine Snoopy wearing their pieces. Sat alongside the original collection where Snoopy was placed in Chanel, Issey Miyake, etc., this makes for an incredible exhibition all curated by the amazing @sarahandelman !
